Only Nicole can pull off something so elaborate and make it seem like it’s NBD.

Casual Chanel.

Classic Kim serving up a look that she’s done lots of time before.

Freida can’t say no to embroidery.

So many flounces.

This is a major dress and a little too grand.

This feels a little droopy and unfinished to me.

This is so soft that it nearly blends in with Emma’s skin tone.  Lovely makeup though.

A great color but an oddly shirred bodice.

This Week in Celebrity Fashion, Part I: Spring Darkness

10 04 2016

charlize

This dramatic look is a little negated by the sheer trend.  Ladies, please stop wearing underwear on the red carpet, it’s hard to take you seriously.

jlo

Loving the creativity of a gown that looks held together by light-filled spiderwebs.

carrie

When conservative Carrie rocks sheer, we have to call it officially overdone…even if the dress is pretty.

nicole

Not sure if Nicole’s dress is based on a dream or a nightmare but it definitely grabs your attention.

"The Huntsman: Winter's War" Beijing Press Conference

Loving the dark fairytale feel of Jessica’s gown, with its hallucinatory pattern.

lizzy

Lizzy should always keep her hair short, it’s a great length.  Also liking this sequined gown.

Confirmation NY Premiere Arrivals

A little avant garde but also making me wonder if Kerry’s hiding a baby bump because all her dresses lately are very voluminous.

kerry4

That braid is weirding me out but I like the dress.

halle

A very rare Berry sighting, in a signature sexy look.

kerry 3

What I love about this dress is that it takes a “day” fabric and fancies it up with interesting design elements.

kate

An unusual design that brings a little excitement to a black dress.

kim

This is just gaudy and the white sequins aren’t flattering.  Just because it’s skintight, doesn’t mean it’s alright.

jessica

This is really putting the chest in chastain – congratulations to Givenchy on some very sturdy construction.

This Week in Celebrity Fashion, Part I: Sheer Chic

10 11 2013

A lot of strategic sheer going on this week.  But it’s one of those ideas that can easily veer off into attention-grabbing tackiness.

DELIVERY MAN Premieres in LA

I’m over this look already.  The first few times we saw this, it was a little bit shocking but now it’s played out.  Plus, fashion needs to be more than just displaying the most skin.

What I like about Ashanti’s look is that the sheer elements are stylistically part of the dress so that it’s more than just “hey, look at me.”  The colors are pretty too.

LACMA 2013 Art + Film Gala - Arrivals

There’s very little dress here but the design keeps it somewhat PG-13.

carrie-underwood-cma-awards-2013-red-carpet-03

Carrie changes up her signature style here but the sheer isn’t too bold and for a girl used to wearing short-shorts, this is actually demure.

Premiere Of Marvel's "Thor: The Dark World" - ArrivalsPremiere Of Marvel's "Thor: The Dark World" - Arrivals

You may not know who Jaime Alexander is but after this red carpet sighting, she’s definitely on more radars.  The thing about wearing a dress like this is that you’re working way too hard.  Plus, front & back exposure is too tacky.

The Dress That Devoured Country

6 04 2009

acm_awards_85815165-x6001

There’s superstar, there’s diva and then there’s Carrie, who’s taken over the world of country while her dress takes over the awards stage.   It’s couture, it’s glam and it’s yippee-ka-yay fabulous.

Silverado

23 02 2009

underwoodNot quite sure why Carrie’s at an Oscars party but I’ll go with it.  I actually love this dress or at least the shoulder concept.  It gets a little ridiculous when repeated at the hem but it’s still a dramatic and unique approach to the one shoulder look.  But Carrie should lighten up on the hair and makeup – sometimes, it makes her look too old.

Golden Girl

8 02 2009

9 AMI always think Carrie looks like Country Barbie and this is no different.  She’s lovely but a little bland.  No reason not to add a little rock and roll sometimes.
